When that morning came where I did not accidentally stumbled on the passage of Romans 12 and read this specific verse “Because of the kindness that God has shown me, I ask you not to think of yourselves more highly than you should. Instead, your thoughts should lead you to use good judgment based on what God has given each of you as believers.” Romans 12:3, I knew in my heart what God was telling me.
For a time, I have been thinking of myself so high over things that I was able to achieve and what I can achieve with my great talents and skills when it comes to sales, marketing and almost being knowledgeable about every field. You can ask me almost about anything and I can make you think I know all about it. I lavished into the praises of my friends and the people who know me for being such an achiever. I would oftentimes hear them say that I am always able to get what I want. There was a feeling in me and a boastful thinking that I wanted to be ahead of everyone else and I was so sure I can do it coz I have all the skills to do so.
Thankfully, God humbled me down. God placed me in the lowest and deepest financial struggle and slowly took away everything that I have built. God led me back to Him during those moments which I am greatly thankful for Him for He has blessed me, not with material things, but a closer relationship with Him which for me is more important than the earthly treasures in this world. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants-what is good, pleasing, and perfect.”
Sometimes we are in a situation where life is so good and everything is going out fine that we forget to remember that it is God who is giving us everything that we have even all the skills and talents that we have. Then God places us in situations that we don’t like and we want to make changes. But as we try to battle a painful situation, a never ending financial struggle, a life threatening disease like Cancer and all the problems that we are struggling to deal with, we can always ensure our victory thru God’s word. Psalms 37:5 says “Depend on the Lord. Trust in Him and He will help you.”
If I have had a closer relationship with God even before my experience of being at the lowest point in my life, I would have had victory over victory thru every trials and struggles I had to deal with knowing God’s promises thru His word. Instead of thinking so highly of myself that I can overcome every battle that I had to face using my own strength, I surrendered it to the Lord for I know that I can’t do anything apart from Him. He made sure that I learned this lesson for He showed me in a merciful way that it is only thru Him that I can be victorious in my life.
Do you ever get to that point where you seem to be doing almost everything you can do to change your current situation but still, nothing seems to ever change. If you are still in a difficult financial situation, still struggling with your illness, still in an emotional and abusive relationship or any painful and difficult situation that you can’t seem to get out of, then maybe God is speaking to you to open your heart to Him.
I still go through many struggles in my life just like you, but this verse speaks from my heart, “I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Phil 4:13. For every struggle that I am in, I know God will ensure my victory through His promises that I can find in His word thru the Bible. It is not my own strength nor my skills or talents that makes me win over my struggles, it is God’s power and strength that ensures my victory over life here on earth.
If you are having difficult moments in your life right now, humble down yourself to God and pray. Ask Him to search through your heart and find the answers to the questions you have through his word. Spending 10 minutes to read the bible and developing a closer relationship with God will make you win every struggle that is thrown at your for you know that God is with you all the time.
