Do you have a hard time when it comes to setting and maintaining priorities in your life?
Do you often feel caught up in a situation where its hard to say no to your friends or family though you know what the consequences may be if you say yes to their request?
I found myself in such a dilemma most of the time and I think its mainly because I wanted to please people in my life. Since I work at home, I have the control over my working hours and what I do with my time. If my friends or cousins would ask me to accompany them to go somewhere else, I couldn’t say NO. Thus, I would find myself the next day regretting the decision I have made for I was not able to do what I was suppose to do with my work since I decided to leave it and give in to my cousins request of accompanying her to go out.
Yes, it feels good when you are able to please people with their requests if you can do it for them but its not good when you leave your priorities behind which makes you regret for doing it anyway.
” Don’t let the good things in life rob you of the best things .”
Setting priorities is about putting the best things ahead of good things and about keeping first things in first place. You can always ask God to help you evaluate every new request, projects or activities based on how it will fit in with your priorities in life.
Putting this into practice, I have learned to say NO to such requests of going out to accompany friends or family when I have work to do. I make sure that I finish my work first before committing into another task so that it will not jeopardize the work that I’m currently doing. Proverbs 16:3 says, “Commit to the Lord everything you do. Then your plans will succeed.”
